Version 1.0

Methodology

Marketing Crunch scores use a consistent editorial methodology based on public evidence, including coverage volume, outlet quality, and recency.

Two ratings, never merged

Every record carries two numbers drawn from the coverage we have measured. Volume and quality capture different dimensions, so they are published side by side.

Share of Voice

Share of Voice measures coverage volume relative to the other records in the same category. It is scaled against the highest recorded volume: Share of Voice = 30 + 62 × log10(1 + volume) ÷ log10(1 + highest volume). Records with no recorded coverage are shown as awaiting data.

Signal

Signal measures coverage quality through outlet weight and recency, rewarding strong, current coverage. Scores are capped at 97, and records with no recorded evidence are shown as awaiting data.

Missing information is never counted as zero. Where nothing has been measured, the rating reads “awaiting data” and no number is published.

What we publish, and what we don’t

We publish the measurement: how much coverage a name has and how strong it is. We do not publish article lists, individual headlines, or links to the outlets behind a record. The ratings stand on the measurement, not on a reading list.

Separate methodologies per entity type

Agencies and individual marketers are assessed under their own methodologies, with their own categories and evidence thresholds. Scores are never compared across entity types, and individuals are only scored when documented evidence exists — otherwise the profile shows “Not yet rated”.

What every published score carries

  • A written rationale
  • The measured volume behind the Share of Voice rating
  • A named reviewer
  • A review date
  • A methodology version

Editorial, sponsored, and scored content

Numbered rankings are score-driven. Editorial lists are curated selections and say so. Sponsored and featured slots are visually labelled and kept outside numbered rankings. Paid placement never affects a score, and no company is fixed in first place.

Missing data

Unverified fields are intentionally left blank rather than estimated. A record with no recorded evidence is shown as awaiting data, never as a zero or as poor performance.
